Overview

Getting around and paying for essentials is spread across too many single-purpose apps, one for rides, one for rentals, one for power, one for food. Spins bundles those jobs behind one wallet, one activity history and one home screen. Its onboarding says it plainly: “One App, Everything covered. From paying bills to getting around, sorted.”

For the business, the super-app structure is a retention engine: every additional service a customer adopts raises the cost of leaving. The design challenge is keeping that breadth legible, six services that feel like one product.

Full themes, light and dark

The Problem

Each service a customer adds today means another app, another payment setup, another history to check. Context dies between them, the ride app doesn’t know you just paid a bill, and the rental service makes you re-enter the card you used yesterday.

How might one app carry six different services without the home screen becoming a junk drawer?

Constraints

  • Two full themes: light and dark, as equal citizens, not an inverted afterthought.

  • Map-first flows: booking had to keep live trip context visible through every state, from search to rating.

  • Service breadth vs. clarity: six service lines competing for one home screen.

Research & Insights

Discovery with the client mapped the service portfolio and its priorities, and a competitive review of single-purpose apps, ride-hailing, rentals, bill payments, identified what each does well that a super-app must not lose. The controlling insights:

  • Users navigate super-apps through a services grid, not a feed, recognition beats discovery when the jobs are concrete.

  • Trip context must persist: from “searching for ride” through “driver is here” to rating, users need the same card updated, not five new screens.

  • Payment reuse is the super-app’s glue: one saved payment core across rides, rentals, food and bills is what makes the bundle feel like one product.

Goals & Objectives

  • Give every service one consistent home, wallet and activity history.

  • Design a map-first ride experience that keeps trip context visible from booking to rating.

  • Make vehicle rental and purchase trustworthy with specifications, availability and clear pricing.

  • Keep bill payments fast enough to finish in seconds.

Process

Every flow was first laid out as a complete grayscale wireframe kit, home, profile, ride booking, rental, bills and the services grid, to validate the architecture while it was cheap to change. The high-fidelity pass then delivered the entire app twice, as a full light theme and a full dark theme built from the same structure.

Key Design Decisions

1. A services grid as the home, not a feed

Feeds demote concrete jobs to scroll positions. Spins leads with current activity, the ride in progress, the bill due, followed by a recognizable grid of services. The accepted trade-off is a home screen that promotes less and completes more: utility over engagement theater.

2. One persistent trip card across every booking state

Searching, driver assigned, arriving, in-trip, complete, one card morphs through the journey instead of five screens replacing each other. The map stays put; only the card’s state changes. This is the pattern that makes a map-first app feel calm instead of jumpy.

3. One payment core shared by all six services

Cards, history and confirmation patterns are a single system reused by rides, rentals, food and bills. Users learn the payment flow once; every service after that feels familiar on first use, the interaction-level version of the super-app promise.

The Solution

  • Home hub with current activities, suggested actions and recent history.

  • Ride booking with tiers (Standard, Wait & Save, Priority Pickup), live driver tracking and post-ride ratings.

  • Car marketplace for renting and buying, with specifications, availability and featured vehicles.

  • Services grid spanning rides, delivery, rentals, vehicle sales, food orders and bill payments.

  • Bill payment center covering electricity, mobile and internet, with dues, history and scheduling.

Results & Impact

The project delivered end-to-end flows for six service lines in both themes, 50+ screens with full wireframe-to-hi-fi traceability, structured so the client can ship service by service in phases.

Reflections

  • What worked: the persistent trip card, it resolved the hardest screens in the app with one reusable pattern.

  • What I’d do differently: define the dark theme’s elevation system before finishing the light theme, rather than translating it afterwards.

  • What I’d validate next: first-session comprehension of the services grid, do new users grasp the app’s breadth within the first minute?
